The Facebook Express keeps marching along, leaving other companies in its wake. This time it’s Snapchat.
Recent reports indicate that Instagram is “stealing” valuable viewership time from Snapchat with its Instagram Stories. According to one analysis, the declines range from 15-40 percent. Ironically, Snapchat has been in the news the past week in anticipation of an expected IPO sometime this year.
So what’s going on?
One CEO of a social content production studio put it this way: “Everyone is posting way less. Some are not posting at all anymore.” This same CEO said in this story that the firm’s social content production “stars” are seeing a decline in views on Snapchat Stories of 20-30 percent from August of last year to mid-January this year.
What’s remarkable is that Instagram Stories has been around that long. And yet, it currently has 150 million daily users, which is same number of users that Snapchat’s entire app reportedly hit in June 2016.
What does this mean for marketers who target teens and savvy social media types?
It means Instagram may wind up being a better platform, especially in the long-term.
Stay tuned. Social media continues to evolve quickly.
